Shining a Light on Special Interest Damage: An Unfortunate Necessity

It’s a sad day when U.S. citizens need a blog that catalogs the many ways that special interests are ruining the nation by putting their own narrow, selfish needs above the best interests of the people of this country. Through well-organized, persistent lobbying, special interests have essentially taken over the democratic process, perverting it to serve their own needs.

We’re at the point now where the nation is in danger. Members of Congress ― regardless of party affiliation ― are loathe to vote for any measure that could tick off their special interest supporters. Even if the measure is something that would clearly benefit the citizens of the United States. Why? Because special interests are powerful, donating millions of dollars to campaign funds and lambasting politicians with demands and ultimatums. Unfortunately, the U.S. citizenry don’t appear to have the same influence over their elected representatives. And that’s when the foundation our country was built on begins to break down.

Join me as I labor to bring this unsustainable shift in power into the light. We cannot allow special interests to control our country … that’s not the way this nation is supposed to work. We’ll start in the next post with health care reform. Thanks to special interest groups, health care reform is either going to fail or be passed in a way that IS NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST of the people of the United States. And that’s a guarantee.
